Louisiana Truvada Lawsuit Attorneys
For people living with HIV, or trying to reduce their risks of contracting it, certain drugs offer hope for a longer, healthier life and less risk of infection. One of the most commonly used HIV antiviral drugs is Truvada, which is now the focus of hundreds of lawsuits against the drug’s manufacturer, Gilead Sciences, Inc.
It’s tragic that a drug marketed to prevent and treat such a serious condition can cause side effects that worsen an HIV patient’s condition. At Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers, we’re now accepting inquiries for Truvada lawsuits.
If you or a loved one has taken Truvada and suffers from bone or kidney issues because of this medication, contact our team today for a free consultation.
What is Truvada?
Truvada contains two HIV medications: tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine. It is intended to prevent infections and slow the progression of HIV. Truvada is also prescribed to reduce a person’s risk of contracting HIV.
The Harmful Side Effects of Truvada
The two most common side effects of Truvada at the center of ongoing lawsuits are bone and kidney issues. Bone issues include osteoporosis, osteopenia, bone fractures, and bone density loss. Kidney issues include renal failure, low kidney function, abnormally high creatinine, and abnormal glomerular filtration rate levels.
Renal failure can occur during ongoing dialysis treatments or hospitalization. In some cases, renal failure stemming from Truvada use can lead to death.
Why File a Truvada Lawsuit?
When a drug manufacturer sells a dangerous medication to consumers, injured users of that medication have the right to demand payment for the many expenses they are facing. Defective drug lawsuits can ensure that a consumer receives payment for:
- Medical expenses – including ongoing treatment, hospitalizations, medications, ambulatory care, or any other medical needs.
- Lost income – including all past and future income lost due to the drug’s impact on a person’s inability to work.
- Pain and suffering – including the physical, emotional pain and suffering a person endures as a result of taking the harmful medication.
Gilead Sciences, Inc., failed to produce a safe medication for a vulnerable group of people. They should be held accountable for the harm that patients who took their medication suffered.
